The First Step To Booking More Couples In 2020

sales Feb 04, 2020

Last week I wrote about skill stacking. The idea is to reverse engineer what you’ve got to be great at if you want to see success with your business – and then build those skills on top of each other to reach your goals.

But what do you need to get good at?

In the coming weeks I’ll share core capabilities you need to master if you want to book the right kinds of clients. Most you’ll be okay at. Some you already do really really well. And others you’ll suck at.

That’s okay! You’re not born knowing everything. The good news is sales is a learned ability.

But I’m not good at sales

First of all, you’re not good - yet. It’s crucial you get your head out of that fixed mindset and into a growth mindset (and go read the book, “Mindset” by Carol Dweck).

Second of all, very few people are masters at sales. Even those at the top of their game learned most of what they know. Sure, some get a head start with how their brains are wired.

But pretty much everyone has to develop a knowledge base, just like you did with math and science and geography and history and language arts and and and...

So where do you begin?

Start with what’s working already

Most people blow it by starting with the weakest areas first. Don’t do that. You’ll get frustrated and work your brain too hard - and then throw in the towel before you get going.

Instead start with your strengths. Is it connecting with couples? Are you incredibly knowledgeable about your field? Do you have a silver tongue to persuade people? Are you hyper-organized and incredibly focused?

Build on what you do well by making that a bigger part of how you set up a sales process that works better…for you.

Next week I’m going to talk about how you’re probably ignoring your single biggest opportunity to get more of the right kinds of couples to become your clients.
