You want to know a secret?

The key to making more money isn’t only about you or your work. Sure, that’s important. But so many other people are really great to work with, have tons of experience, and provide a really great service/product.

I’m being serious. It’s not enough to showcase beautiful work, make lots of friends in the industry who can refer you clients, and get on a who’s who list from Harper’s Bazaar or Martha Stewart or whatever publication.

You know how I know? Because I have numerous clients who do these things and are on these lists – and they’re trying to get better too. That’s why they hired me. I mean, if they’re starting from a great place and they’re using a coach to get better…

This is why I don’t buy into the whole the reason "it’s so hard to find clients because the market is so saturated.” Nope. The real reason is because others are working harder and smarter than you.

The one thing that matters most

Here’s the good news. I’m going to give you a glimpse of what matters most when trying to get more business. It’s so simple you’re going to look like that funny emoji of the girl slapping her forehead.

It’s your clients.

Yep. You did that forehead-slapping-thing didn’t you?

Everything you do in business should start with who’s using your services. I know, I know, I know. You’re so tired of everyone talking about your ideal buyer. If you’re one of those people that’s okay, you can stop reading.

Everyone else who keeps reading is going to keep taking your clients from you – and you don’t get to complain anymore about how the market is so saturated. Ever. Again.

The tip of the iceberg

If you didn’t know… we’ve expanded Ideaction Consulting’s services to include work on your website. Not website design or style guides, because we’re leaving that to other experts. No, we’re focusing on the persuasive elements that convert site visitors into inquiries: copywriting.

The thing is, the copywriting is the simple part. It’s the part you see when the process is all done. When all the hard work has been completed.

We believe the most important part of the copywriting process is the research that’s done on your one reader, your ideal buyer. Because if you think you’re tired of trying to find clients in a crowded marketplace, they’re even more tired of trying to find their perfect vendor in a mall with thousands of options to choose from.

What’s below the surface

If you want to connect with your clients you’ve got to do it by starting with their needs, their concerns, their problems in mind. And it’s best done using their words.

And if you really want to stand out, you need a whole strategy about how to reach them. What do they want from you? How can you show them what’s most important? What are others doing to get the same clients? How can you stand out from them?

If the sales experience starts the moment an engaged couple lands on your website, and you close the deal long after that when they sign the contract, well, you’ve got to make sure you’re “selling” with a comprehensive plan.

(Pssst. Here’s the TLDR secret…)

To make more money and stand out you’ve got to do three things:

1.     Know your buyer

2.     Use a voice and message that connects with them

3.     Differentiate yourself from the comp set

Do only one or two of these and your voice is going to be sore yelling at people to buy your services. Do all three if you want to open the door to more business and less bitching about crowded marketplaces.
