Did We Just False Start?

When COVID-19 first hit the event industry back in March, I wrote about the eye of the storm we’re all in. Where is the eye? How big is the storm? How long will it take to pass by? What kind of damage will it do to the event industry? To your business?

Nearly 15 weeks later, we’re still in the middle of it. Immeasurable damage has been done. Businesses are underwater. The future is more defined, but it’s not nearly as comforting as we’d hoped because it’s not the sunshine and rainbows and unicorns we all wanted.

The new normal isn’t so much fun

We can’t hold our breath forever, waiting for the storm to pass. Getting back to normal isn’t possible. Look around you. Go ahead. I’ll wait….

(I’m cool…keep looking around you…)

Nothing is normal. Everything is out of sorts. And just because we want it to be back the way it was doesn’t mean doing what we did will get us what we want now.

Time to scrap the old way

If the “reopening” has shown us anything, it’s that false starts require a reset.

Katy and I are doing one for ourselves and our business this week. We blocked all day Thursday to start with ourselves, our marriage, our family, and our social community.

On Friday, we’re diving into our business – but we’re starting from 30,000 feet. What are the new goals for our company? How are we going to achieve them in the coming months? What activities need to be done daily/weekly/monthly? How can we create a thriving culture with our team?

Are you ready to look inside too?

Typically, this is the kind of work we all do around January 1. Guess what? New normal. Now we do it when our lives and businesses need us to do it. Not because of the date on the calendar, but because the entire world has shifted.

If you want to know what we’re up to, tune in to More Cowbell on Instagram Monday through Friday around 7:30 am PDT.

If you want to join us as we unpack the process, we’d love to have you…
