3 Excuses You're Making That Prevent Success

excuses growth Jul 23, 2019

I know you’ve said these things. At least one of them. Okay, maybe you’ve just thought them. For sure you’ve heard others say them. Maybe you just said them…for a friend, right?

“The marketplace is so saturated.”
When was the last time you went to any networking event or industry conference and you did NOT hear someone say this?

Seriously. Think back…(I’ll wait.)

Yes, the marketplace is saturated. Yes, the marketplace is crowded. More and more people are turning themselves into pros.

Plus, the number of couples getting married isn’t really growing. It’s about the same over the past few years.

So the market’s not getting bigger and more people trying to get started or go full-time.

Now that we all agree on it, what are you going to do about it?

“Others are slow too.”
Misery loves company.

You are what you attract.

What you put out, you get back.

And the list goes on and on and on (and on and on and on). When did others’ success (or failures) have anything to do with our own?

Here are two things to remember: 1) The number of weddings this year will be about flat and 2) the average spend per wedding is likely to be flat or more.

There’s no massive decrease in overall spend that’s resulting in everyone you know being slow.

What’s actually happening is that your competition is busting their tush and taking clients from you.

“I’m too busy now.”
Did you read the post about me doing 60 events in 62 days one summer? Yep, still had time to book more business for the following year.

I don’t care how busy you are. You’re never too busy to respond to new client emails or quick 15-minute discovery calls.

What are you too busy with? I’m guessing other things you’ve prioritized over potential business.

If you keep telling yourself these excuses and you’ll have no one to blame but yourself.

Start today by acknowledging that you have progress to make. The first step to solving any problem (in business or life) is to give in to the fact that you’re not perfect and you have work to do to get better.

Till next week, good luck with your inquiries!
